A Luxury English escape: What to do in The Cotswolds

A Luxury English escape: What to do in The Cotswolds

“There were pool parties, moustaches, sombreros, lots of food, Prosecco and Pimms!”

If you lovelies are subscribed to my Youtube Channel or follow along on Insta you’ll know that last week we were whisked off to The Cotswolds by the wonderful guys at The Blogger Programme and Kate and Toms for a few days of luxury and relaxation! There were pool parties, moustaches, sombreros, lots of food, Prosecco and Pimms! We were all taken aback by the sheer beauty and kind of felt like we were in Hogwarts with the tall, stoned walls, ivy climbing every crevice and history around every corner!

I wrote about the importance of taking a break and my little London staycation here, but this time we headed off somewhere a little bit rural and off the grid! Wherever it is you’re staying, and whoever with, I thought I’d put together a little mini guide to the ultimate Luxury, English escape and what to do The Cotswolds! From were we stayed, what we ate to what we did, as well as showing you around our beautiful Mansion for a few days and what you can expect from a little retreat away from the world!

Where to stay

As much as I love hotels, for me, a countryside retreat wouldn’t be complete without staying in one of the many, stunning manor houses they have to offer – I’m obsessed with finding out the history behind them too! If you’ve watched the vlog you’ll notice me and Emma questioning the slightly eery hanging portraits! Kate and Toms have SO MANY properties on their books, this is just the selection to choose from inThe Cotswolds! We stayed in the incredible Marsden Manor  in Rendcomb which has a whopping 10 bedrooms and sleeps 20! I feel like somewhere like this would be perfect for a milestone birthday or celebration away!

It was a bloggers paradise and we ALL made sure to make use of the marble walled bathrooms, deep blue pool and immaculately manicured lawns for some photos opps! It had such a homely, cosy feel and we all agreed that it would be so, insanely magical at Christmas time too to stay somewhere like this! The bed in my room was the comfiest I had ever slept in, I literally sank in and woke to the birds chirping outside my window – bliss!

What to do

We had a wonderful packed couple of days but just enough time left to take in the beautiful views, tranquility and atmosphere of The Cotswolds! I thoroughly recommend making wonderful food plans whilst you’re away – it’s such a lovely sociable time and a great way to get to know people and have amazing conversations into the night! Get outdoors too – rain or shine! Go for a jog, a walk up the hills, check out nearby horse riding, cycling or whack your yoga matt out on the lawn! We also had a super cosy room filled to the brim with blankets for movies and boardgames!

It would also be rude NOT to have a pool party when you have a heated outdoor pool too (because when are pools EVER warm in England!) Complete with inflatable donuts, unicorns and pimms for the perfect sunny afternoon! No Pool? Find a nearby river and have a paddle and a picnic! We also had the lovelies from Blossom & Jasmine come and treat us all to a pamper session with Massages and Manicures which was total bliss! There’s so many hidden Gems in The Cotswolds, immerse yourself in the local culture and things to do – we went for a Brewery Tour before dinner which was so much fun!

What to eat

Whether you’re self catering and whipping up a delicious meal for your friends and family, getting someone else to come and cook for you or dining at a restaurant – it’s always an occasion to look forward to! Dining is hugely sociable and I love dinner party conversations and sitting around a table with a good bottle of wine! We had an insane collection of wines from freshly bottled Bellini’s to fine reds from Sporting Wine, which well and truly kept us hydrated throughout our stay 😉 On our last evening we all sat around the table after we’d finished eating and talked about everything and anything until late, it’s these kind of occasions that I love! Breakfast and lunch were delicious and fresh, a beautiful spread put on by The Blogger Programme girlies – freshly bakes croissants, strawberries, avocado, granola – eating your breakfast outside in the sunshine is a must in the Cotswolds!

For our first dinner we had a full on Mexican party (complete with furry moustaches and sombreros if you’ve seen the vlog 😉 ) an amazing feast from Hello Fresh. (you can actually grab a cheeky discount with the code ‘primrose50’ 😉 ) Mexican is my absolute fave, so to say I was excited would be an understatement! Then for our final evening we had the incredible guys from Las Tapitas cook us an incredible and authentic array of Spanish Tapas – this was such a treat and I highly recommend if you’re self catering for a night off! They explained every dish, the origin and even labelled things so we knew what was GF, vegan, etc! If you’re staying really rural and far from any eateries, self catering is such a lovely way to have fun with cooking whilst being sociable – hello summer BBQ and Pimms!

The importance of having friend dates | Wine tasting in the dark with Laithwaites!

The importance of having friend dates | Wine tasting in the dark with Laithwaites!

“Sometimes nothing beats a cold, glass of wine and a chat with one of your favourite people. It definitely feeds the soul.”

Last week we did just this – myself and the wonderful Emma from The Emasphere – who you’ll almost definitely recognise from my previous post, all about the importance of blogging friends – headed to the Vintage Festival in London with the lovelies at Laithwaites and The Blogger Programme, to have a pretty unique experience and ‘Taste in the Dark’. It’s no surprise if you follow along on Insta Stories, that you’ll know I LOVE a good glass of wine occasionally. Being able to pop to the shops and buy myself a little bottle, to enjoy a glass with Friday evenings dinner is definitely one thing about being an adult that I quite like (a lot!)

Myself and Emma are both wine lovers (she’s Aussie, so naturally a TOTAL PRO!) So it’s always super fun to hang out and have a good catch up over a bottle sometimes – so this seemed like the PERFECT girl date for us! We were invited by Laithwaites (the UK’s No.1 home delivery wine merchant!) to have a little peek at the Vintage Festival and to give ‘Wine tasting in the Dark’ a go – we were both pretty excited about kick starting our weekend off this way and also super intrigued to see how much an environment and playing around with your other senses, can affect your ability to taste! This was definitely an experience everyone should have a go at once in their life!

“How much can experimenting with the power of seeing, hearing and feeling really change our ability to taste”

I must admit, although I was thoroughly looking forward to the experience, I was also very dubious. “How much can experimenting with the power of seeing, hearing and feeling really change our ability to taste.” I can tell apart my whites from reds, but wasn’t expecting the fact we were sat in the pitch black, feeling different textures and listening different music, all whilst sipping wine, to have an effect on the taste. Oh god, I couldn’t have been more wrong – there is such thing as magic people (coming from the sceptic over here!) It began with a series of different experiments, all whilst sat in the dark (with the hosts equipped with night vision goggles and everything!) We compared wines, trying to distinguish the grapes first – red or white?

We then moved on to our hearing senses – can the music playing have an effect on the taste? Needless to say happy, jingle music made the Red taste a lot nicer than disjointed, sharp music! The biggest thing for me though, which even had Emma baffled, was when we tuned into our sense of touch. On one side we had sand paper and another some soft velvet – I KID YOU NOT the wine tasted like a whole different (and much more delicious!) bottle whilst touching the velvet! ( I repeated this another 5 times just to check 😉 ) MIND = TOTALLY BLOWN – this would also make the most fun dinner party game – am I right?!

“I actually kind of felt like a kid in a candy store. (except this is the grown up, prosecco obsessed version)”

Following this and after we got over our confusion and amazement (seriously though, if you want a cheap wine to taste incred, just invest in a velvet table!) we were then let loose into the festival. It’s always been something on my bucket list to go wine tasting, so this was something I was very much looking forward to (and can tick off of my 2017 list!) I actually kind of felt like a kid in a candy store. (except this is the grown up, prosecco obsessed version) – Laithwaites have the most INSANE array and cater for all budgets too, I feel like I’ve stumbled upon the wine version of my fave online clothes shop – browse, fill up that cart and have it all delivered to your door! They also do Hampers and spirits gifts (is it bad that I’ve pretty much sussed peoples Christmas presents already?!)

What better way to catch up and have amazing conversations with your favourites than to get together and congregate in a room full of amazing wine! We were given a glass and left to our own devices, which left me pretty happy to say the least (followed by a HUGE pizza fuelled lunch!) We discovered amazing, new wines (sparkling, chilled red wine – SO GOOD!) met some wonderful people and even began to plan a trip abroad purely for the wine tours! If you love wine, people and having a fab time, tasting in the dark and festivals like this are a total no brainer – it was SO much fun all sitting in the dark, laughing and experimenting without being able to see a thing! I’ve also got so much summer party inspo (and a list as long as my arm) of wines to try! Get out there and organise a day with your besties, you’ll feel so good for making time for the people you love and just enjoying yourself!

I hope you guys loved this one – we had SUCH A FUN time experiencing a ‘Taste in the Dark’ with Laithwaites at the Vintage festival, having a little try of everything – literally the most perfect friend date! I’d love to know what you guys love to do with your friends, film nights, cooking, shopping – share your best ways to spend time with your faves!

Making decisions for yourself | My experience At Viva Skin Clinic

Making decisions for yourself | My experience At Viva Skin Clinic

“Do things that make you smile and feel amazing, life’s too short to feel anything less.”

I‘ve always been a firm believer in ‘live and let live’. If someone can make a decision that makes them happy, without fear of others judgement, then that should be celebrated! Imagine all of the things we wouldn’t do, if we spent life worrying about other’s opinions and thoughts. It’s your life and should be lived without regrets, or wandering ‘what if’. Do things that make you smile and feel amazing, life’s too short to feel anything less. Whether it’s taking up dance lessons, buying a pair of shoes you’ve lusted over or dying your hair green!

We are so incredibly lucky to have the freedom to make decisions for ourselves and we should recognise this and be grateful, instead of perhaps critiquing others sometimes, which we all can too easily get caught up in. I’ve also always been a very open minded person, although some things may not be for me, I can still respect and admire people for chasing after what they love and having confidence behind their decisions! Being open minded has really improved my outlook on life and has made me able to empathise with and understand people so much more. It’s also helped me make my own decisions, one of which was a big turning point in shrugging off peoples judgement and I couldn’t be happier!

“I spent way too much of my school years not having my hair a certain way or not wearing my favourite shoes, because there would always be someone who had something to say about it. Over the years I’ve come to learn that nothing makes you happier than doing something for yourself and that you’re passionate about. Other’s opinions will slowly become irrelevant and really, there’s worse things going on in the world than whether or not someones lipstick is wonky!”

“Personality, values and someones genuinness should never be judged through how they choose to present themselves. “

Learning to full heartedly make decisions for myself, without worrying about what others think is and probably always will be a slight battle, especially being in the blogging industry. Nasty comments can sometimes be thrown around on the seemingly most innocent of videos and blog posts, without any disregard or consideration thought about the person on the receiving end. Ultimately, these people probably have more issues than just a fear of judgement, so should you let that dictate what you do? Hell no! The people worth having around with always have your back and those are the only ones you should be worrying about. Self love is the most important thing in the world, don’t let anyone ever make you feel like you’re making the wrong decision.

I’ve always been totally accepting and open minded about anything cosmetic, from fake eyelashes, hair extensions, filler and boob jobs. I can’t say I’m interested in all of them, some of them I never will be, but I certainly have nothing against anyone that decides otherwise. This is the problem with anything cosmetic, even throughout school, if someone wore fake tan, nails or too much makeup, they were considered ‘fake’. Personality, values and someones genuinness should never be judged through how they choose to present themselves. I finally took the plunge two weeks ago and had a very small amount of filler in my lips by the wonderful Dr Rupert at Viva Skin Clinics. This was something I’ve wanted to do for ages, it was just a matter of getting to the point where I felt confident in my decision, that it was right for me and where I no longer cared about others opinions.

Before

After

Before

Swelling after 4-5 hours

After

“Why didn’t I do it before? Primarily, I was worrying all too much about other’s judgement.”

If anything has ever dented your confidence, being able to lift it back up really is a wonderful feeling. I’ve always felt much more confident with lipstick on, so wanted to feel the same, sans makeup! Why didn’t I do it before? Primarily, I was worrying all too much about other’s judgement. Coming from a small town in Devon, anything out of the ordinary is definitely hot gossip. I love where I came from and I find this so endearing, but not when people love to follow along with your life religiously and then criticise it. London has been a lot more accepting for me, nothing is judged upon too harshly (or so I’ve found!) and that’s helped me embrace myself, my personality and ultimately, my decisions. After seeing the incredible Dr Rupert, from Viva Skin Clinics perform live demonstrations at the opening of his new Harley Street clinic, myself and Ben were astounded by his artistry.

Like I mentioned, there is a slight stigma around anything cosmetic that involves a little more than a bit of lippy. Ben and even myself, previous to watching Dr Rupert, both thought that it would always be blindingly obvious if someones had something done. Looking through his client ‘before and afters’ I was so impressed with the natural approach he takes to any procedures! It was insanely quick and painless too – you have a numbing cream applied for 10 minutes, the total procedure took about another 5-10 and you’re done! As you can see, after a few hours my lips definitely began to swell a little bit, which disappears within a day or two. The end result? It’s that subtle that even my family couldn’t tell until I told them. For me, it’s not about other’s noticing but myself and how I feel. You all know from my Insta stories and Youtube Channel that my problematic skin can really make my self confidence hit rock bottom and Viva Skin have really given me a boost and I can’t thank them enough for that!

I really hope that this was insightful for you guys and I hope it inspired you to make decisions FOR YOURSELF, whatever they may be!  If you have any questions at all about the procedure, what it involved, my experience, etc – please do shoot them my way! I would be more than happy to do another blog post, Q&A or YouTube video all about how it works. You can also catch any info with the lovelies themselves over at Viva Skin!  As always, let me know what you loves would like to see and THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart or being ever supportive, your response on Instagram was really lovely to hear!

Distressed denim – how to make it work for all occasions

Distressed denim – how to make it work for all occasions

“Never lets you down, always feels comfortable and
whenever I slip on a pair of my faves I instantly feel like
myself.”

Ah distressed denim, always my go to uniform. Never lets you down, always feels comfortable and whenever I slip on a pair of my faves I instantly feel like myself. This is always super handy in an industry that sometimes makes me question my personal style and leaves me feeling unsure of what I want to wear. “Am I under dressed?” “Crap, she’s wearing a dress and I’m in jeans”, “Will people think I’m boring”. “Am I wearing enough trends.”

Self comparison can be a dangerous thing and I wrote all about it here. It’s only natural to do it sometimes, even the most self assured of us do it. It just so happens I feel my best in a pair of slightly dishevelled looking jeans! Of course I’m always met with the sarcastic and slightly tiresome ‘ohh did you buy them like that’ – “You should buy more jeans, they have a hole in them” comments (particularly when I go back home to see family in Devon!) But hell, I feel damn good in a pair of ripped jeans and it just so happens you can really dress those babies up, like I did here with this stunning top from Coast and some killer heels!

“A white tee, blazers, heels, trainers, jumpers, the combinations are endless. They’re relaxed, effortless, choose your fave shape and dress them up or down! I feel surprisingly put together for an evening out in my fave ripped jeans, heels and a shirt!”

‘Not too perfect, rough around the edges and a little bad
ass. Myself, essentially, personified in a pair of jeans.”

I‘ve always been a bit of a laid back dresser, never one to make too much effort, always wanting that casual chic, vibe (unless the occasion calls for it – Then I go ALL OUT! Like at the Cosmopolitan Influencer Awards – God I loved that dress!) I’m guessing that’s why my eye is always drawn to distressed denim – not too perfect, rough around the edges and a little bad ass. Myself, essentially, personified in a pair of jeans.

If you’ve been following my style journey for a while, or my Instagram, you’ll know I’m an avid lover of my blacks, my whites, greys and nudes. Boring, some may say, but I’ve never been drawn to huge, colourful and bold pieces. I do, however, like my colour in doses – my nails, lips, a cross body bag and on my feet. I feel like these incredible, vibrant shoes totally make up for my lack of colour elsewhere and the subtle palette of my usual outfits really makes them pop!

“I ALWAYS feel good in denim and that’s why I love to wear it”

For me, I ALWAYS feel good in denim, and that’s why I love to wear it for all (okay perhaps not a wedding) occasions. Dressed down for lazy summer days, layered with cosy knits during winter and sassed up with heels and some lace or an oversized shirt and a red lip for evening. Gone are the days where denim was just seen as being a work mans uniform, rips or no rips, denim can be both laid back but also incredibly chic and elegant.

Pick your fave shape – high waisted, flared, skinny or straight (I’m a sucker for some baggy boyfriend jeans!) either buy with rips (Yes Grandma – I DID buy them like that!) or do a little DIY job (this is great when re vamping jeans you’ve lost a bit of love for). My Faves are Asos for a fab selection, Topshop (fits like a dream) New Look and H&M. Once you find ‘the one’ – everything else will fall into place and styling will become a breeze, whatever the occasion!

An introduction to luxury shoes – Manolo Blahnik x Farfetch

An introduction to luxury shoes – Manolo Blahnik x Farfetch

“As someone who grew up, sneakily watching marathons of
her sisters Sex and the City box set, this is a pretty big
deal.”

If someone would have said, almost 3 years ago, when I started up this little blog of mine, that in 3 years time I would have the opportunity to work with a brand as Iconic as Manolo Blahnik, I almost definitely, wouldn’t have believed them. As someone who grew up, sneakily watching marathons of her sisters Sex and the City box set, this is a pretty big deal. It’s a bit of a cliche, but whenever I think of Carrie Bradshaw, I think of Manolo’s – two absolute, fashion icons. In March, two wonderful brands, Manolo Blahnik and Farfetch, collaborated and a stunning, new shoe style, the ‘Scipios’ was born!

Inspired by Mr Blahnik’s iconic ‘stiletto’ design and NYC artist Mark Rothko – an abstract expressionist, famous for contrast, colour blocking (I LOVE the contrasting soles and vibrant colours, these babies have already had SO much attention!) The thing I love most about this shoe, apart from the beautiful design and elegant shape, is the whole concept behind them – each of the 5 colours (You can have a little peek here!) has their own ‘personality’ which really personalises the whole process of finding ‘the one’, perfect, shoe. There’s ‘The Romantic one’, ‘The Playful One’, ‘The Mysterious One’, ‘The Modernist One’ or the ‘The Wild One’ – I’d love to know which one’s your pick!

“To me, Manolo’s embody
everything about the kind of
person I want to be. Sassy,
playful, vibrant, elegant and
classic. Five words to
summarise one seriously iconic
shoe and five words
I thrive to make myself,
because who wouldn’t love
to be described as sassy
and elegant atthe same time?!”
A pop of colour really offsets my usual, monochromatic
uniform.

Moving on to the ‘umm, is this actually happening’ moment – I was beyond thrilled to be invited to celebrate the shoe collaboration with 4 other wonderful bloggers and the lovelies at Farfetch and Manolo. We headed to The Lanesborough, in London (which makes me feel like a princess in a Disney movie every time I go!) for a beautiful dinner, drinks and good conversation. I captured the day over on my latest Vlog on my channel, so make sure you have a peek! Cue some hilarious pictures of me being overwhelmed with joy, unboxing my new shoes (the struggles of having an over animated face!)

Never has ‘Give the girl the right pair of shoe and she can
conquer the world’ rung truer.

Now I’ve heard many a girls remark how comfortable Manolo Blahnik shoes are (praise, finally comfortable AND stylish shoes!) and I can confirm that this is totally true! Comfortable and stable, two words I probably don’t immediately think of when go to buy heels, but something which is so important when it comes to actually wearing them for over an hour! There’s also nothing worse (and embarrassing!) than wobbling down a street, catching your heel on absolutely everything and almost breaking your ankle (this has happened WAY too much in the past!) I can report no such occasions have occurred with these beauties. They’ve also survived London’s tube, which always makes a shoe champion, in my opinion!

Farfetch have a seriously gorgeous and plentiful array of Manolo’s – from the colourful, to the subtle, embellished to classic – there’s a Manolo for every girl. Next on my hit list are the black, Sicariata Pumps – some of the girls were wearing them on the evening and my inner magpie was instantly drawn! I also love how my colourful Scipios’s have really made me feel more fun and frivolous when it comes to fashion – even with a tee and denim, they instantly make an outfit more playful and for me, that’s the best part about fashion – having fun and feeling like you can take over the world.

3 Wardrobe classics anyone can wear

3 Wardrobe classics anyone can wear

“I never thought I’d be a blazer and court shoe kinda girl”

My style is classically laid back, minimalist and simple. I like basic colours, with the odd pop of pastel pink or vibrant red. I tend to pick the more basic of structured clothes, clothes styles that have survived past the 80’s, 90’s and into the new millennium. I also like to chuck the odd trend and crazy piece in for good measure (and to perhaps laugh at in years to come – because isn’t that just the best part about fashion!) When Ted Baker challenged me to style up a pair of their shoes, of course I jumped at the chance, I love a good styling challenge and I love putting my own spin on things.

I love how an item can really inspire an outfit, a way of dressing and show a different side to your personality. I never thought I’d be a blazer and court shoe kind of girl. You can’t beat a classic court and that’s what inspired this look, that you can all put your spin on. Every one looks amazing in a killer blazer, heels and great denim. Worn together or separately, they’re 3 total sartorial winners in my books, and here’s why they’re the 3 wardrobe classics that anyone can wear!

A killer, girl boss blazer

Now I’ve got to admit something here; I actually really enjoyed wearing blazers as part of my school uniform. I felt put together, chic and like I could achieve anything. This has stayed with me through to adulthood. (crap, am I really an adult?) Buttoned, embellished or colourful, whatever your taste, find a killer blazer that will carry you through the seasons. The trick is something beautifully tailored to really bring some structure to an outfit. Also, can you believe this one was from Primark?! You guys were loving it in my Primark Haul!

My Picks
Heels that can conquer the world

Finding killer heels is one thing, but finding killer heels that fit, are comfortable and carry you through lifes best moments are another. I’ve always loved Ted Baker for their unique, classic and elegant designs, whether that’s their dresses, bags or shoes, so it was absolute honour to work with them on this! This pair immediately caught my eye, I love the metal detail, the patent, classic look and the signature Ted Baker bow at the back!. The heel is also that perfect height to take you through day to night without any sore feet at the end!

I’ve recently started to dabble with luxury fashion a bit more, as much as I love my bargains I do love the quality and longevity you get with designer brands. I find that Ted Baker is such a wonderful intersection of the two – quality, stunning designs with those other little touches you get with high end shoes but with a slightly more affordable price point. Meaning that you can have beautiful, comfortable shoes that will last you for years but without sacrificing any meals! I truly feel beautifully put together and confident when I slip on my fave heels, there’s something about that ritual of putting them on for us that is wonderfully satisfying and gratifying.

My Picks
Denim that loves your body

I’m sure we can all relate to the very real struggle that is finding the right pair of jeans. Skinny fit, flared, straight, boyfriend or cropped. Whatever your preferred fit, there’s nothing more satisfying than finding a pair that really love your shape! This pair were featured in my March Fashion Favourites and I absolutely adore them!

Much like heels, the right pair of denim can also carry you through all occasions, day or night, spring or autumn. With trainers, flats, sandals or platforms, dress them up or dress them down. Pick your fave shape of the season (I’m loving straight legs and frayed hems!) and then hunt down a great pair at your go to store. I love Topshop because of the different leg lengths available (holla to all your short girls!)

My Picks
What I wore

Shirt – H&M (similar)

Blazer – Primark (The real deal!)

Denim – Topshop (similar)

Shoes – Ted Baker*

Bag – H&M (similar)

Watch – Ice

I hope you loved this post and that you’ve been inspired to try out some pieces that perhaps you wouldn’t have before!
