MY HAIR HAS ALWAYS BEEN A HUGE PART OF MY IDENTITY AND MY BLONDE HAS BECOME A FIRM, TRAIT OF MY FAMILY!

Hair, for me and I’m sure, many others, has always been a huge part of my identity. Blonde locks have travelled through generations of my family’s genes and it’s become the establishing trait of our family! I take great pride in saying I get my blonde from my mum and love to take care of it, nourish it and keep it shining, long and strong! Whether you rotate your hair colour bi-monthly, love pastel sprays, bright red hues or au natural, it’s part of ourselves and expressing our personalities!¬†I’ve always liked to make hair my focal point and it’s often the thing most people comment on over on my Insta! I mean, it’s kinda hard to miss (espesh in the summer when the sun bleaches it an amusing mix of white/yellow!)

Last year I was solidly addicted to the Tea Tree range from Paul Mitchell (the hair tonic is amaze if you’re worried about thinning, hair loss or just want to nourish your locks and scalp!) So when they asked me to work together on a feature for Spring (come at me beachy waves, sun and T-shirt weather!) I obviously jumped at the chance! Ya know, seeing as hair is my thing and all ūüėČ So here it is; my tips and advice on how I keep my hair in top condition, happy and hopefully one day, long enough to rival Rapunzel!

THE PERKS OF RECOGNISABLE HAIR? IF SOMEONE LOSES ME SHOPPING, THEY CROWD SURF EVERY HEAD UNTIL THEY FIND THE LITTLE YELLOW ONE!

One thing loads of people ask me is how I grow my hair so long, which is funny¬†because it¬†never used to¬†grow much!¬†It’s now a little unstoppable (and I’m awful at remembering to book in trims!) but having an amaze hair care routine is¬†so important in keeping your locks healthy. ¬†Whether you dye your¬†hair or are au natural, these goodies are suitable for both. Plus, changing your hair colour is fun and part of expressing yourself, so don’t let the prospect of damage or dullness stop you; just make sure you’re using products packed full of goodness.¬†Whether you’re¬†wanting to grow your hair, strengthen it or bring back some shine, it’s important to know whats actually¬†in the bottle! Paul Mitchell’s #BehindYourBottle campaign focusses on not only the philanthropy of the brand (serious do-gooders, see below!) but also the importance of the ingredients (hence the incredible flower crown!) because a bottle full of parabens isn’t really going to do much for goldilocks, is it? These ones from the Original & Clarifying range are my faves as they’re a really¬†moisturising way of cleansing, meaning it’s not going to strip your hair of shine, thanks to the Awapuhi, or Hawaiin Ginger! I used to find there was no middle ground with haircare; I’d either use moisturising products on my fine hair and be left with greasy looking, weighed down locks or clarifying products that would leave my hair feeling dry and brittle. These babies tackle both, leaving it super happy, hydrating, comfortable – the perfect formula to let your hair soak up the goodness and grow!

I’M BECOMING EVER CONSCIOUS OF THE PRODUCTS I LOAD ONTO MY FACE, HAIR AND BODY. WE’RE SO USED TO JUST GRABBING WHATEVER SMELLS GOOD OR LOOKS CUTE, WITHOUT GIVING SECOND THOUGHT TO WHAT’S INSIDE THE BOTTLE OR IT’S ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT!

Last year I became ever more conscious of what I’m using on my face, body and hair and it’s impact on the environment (I’d love to know your thoughts on this!) It’s so easy to grab whatever smells good or looks cute, but it’s scary when you find some things can be filled with parabens or be having an awful impact on our planet. For me, Paul Mitchell is a brand that ticks all the boxes. In 1980, they became the first professional beauty company to announce they don’t conduct and endorse animal testing (so a pretty big deal with many following their footsteps!) A quick glance at their ‘caring for the planet’ page will make you¬†feel good about your purchases knowing it’s going towards causes such as protecting coastlines and planting trees. (Yet another good excuse to shop ūüėČ ) It’s always a bonus to be helping the planet through your hair, right?!¬†

I’m currently using both the ¬†Clarifying and Original range, packed with notes of lemon, lime, vanilla and sandalwood, which is absolute bliss massaging it into your scalp (because let’s face it, the best part about the hairdressers is the head massage, so why not re-create this at home!)¬†Vegan, colour safe, paraben free and cruelty free – which pretty much making it accessible and usable for everyone, no matter what your hair type (SO. MANY. products to choose from!) Being a Youtuber since last year, I’m really noticing the rise of people becoming aware of animal cruelty and pushing people not to use brands that support it, so I’m really proud to be bringing something super conscious to you guys. I’d LOVE to know your thoughts on this, whether you’re really strict on what you use or totally unaware (I was too!) FESTIVALS, THE BEACH AND DUSKY, WEEKEND BBQ’S LEAVE YOUR WITH IDEAS OF TUMBLING BEACH WAVES AND MESSY PLAITS

I find that spring and summer is when I really enjoy hair; festivals, the beach and dusky, weekend BBQ’s leave you with ideas of tumbling beach waves and messy plaits. Salt water infused strands, sun kissed curls and lower maintenance are my 3 spring/summer ideals, however it isn’t a time to let your haircare slips. UV Rays and the sea can play havoc with your locks; my tips on bringing some haircare love? Do a deep treatment once or twice a week, either with a hair mask, leave your conditioner in for longer and pop a towel over the top for 20 mins to lock in the goodness before washing out! (I love lathering my hair with this leave in moisturiser to let it soak in all day!) Make sure you always protect your hair from ANY styling, hair dryer, straighter, curlers – this is a biggy and shouldn’t be skipped (unless you’re fond of split ends and straw light hair!)

If you really struggle with dry or unhappy hair, supplements are always an option; do your research on what’s best to misplace and nutrients lacking from your diet. I also have a ritual of when my hair is damp, to massage in hair oils to the ends and mid lengths; not only keeping them shiny and super healthy, but also infusing it with the goodness it’s thirsty for. A few other hair tips I swear by? Don’t over wash it. I also towel or air dry and rarely blow dry (if you can heat style as little as possibly, you’ll soon see how your hair perks up!). Plait long hair when you sleep to save knotting (and wake up with cute, beachy waves!) and invest in a fab detangled to help smooth and make your hair manageable, I LOVE the smell of this Paul Mitchell one and it’s become a total lifesaver!)¬†
