“IF THERE’S SOMETHING THAT WILL ALWAYS MAKE ME FEEL SPECIAL – IT’S A BEAUTIFUL SETTING, A BUNCH OF GOOD PEOPLE, GREAT FOOD AND A TOUCH OF SOMETHING SPARKLING.”
Going out for food or a drink is something I’ve always taken great pleasure of in my independent, adult, life. As a child, our family was more self catered – no all inclusive holidays and meals out were a rarity saved for birthdays and good exam results – but none the less, greatly appreciated. However, this is one thing that has carried itself into my little, bubble of adulthood and has consequently meant there’s nothing more I love doing than making the decision to go out for food, should I choose: purely because I can.
I met the wonderful ladies that are Alexia and Sarah at The Ritz in April at a Pandora event (More of that dreamy evening here if you fancy seeing what we got up to – and more importantly: the outfit! ) We all hit it off straight away and agreed we need to meet again for chats, bubbles and something delicious. So when the opportunity arose to give One Aldwych’s famous Charlie and The Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea a try, what’s a girl to do but put on her finest and give it a go?
Set just a stones throw away from Temple Tube Station and Somerset house – the entrance to One Aldwych is nothing less than grand and the reason I adore London’s architecture so much. It’s a relaxing, tranquil escape for an hour or two, in from the hustle and bustle of the streets outside and the service puts you at ease straight away – so perfect for a special occasion where you want to feel truly, looked after. Attentive, intuitive, warm and informing – our tea and the concept was wonderfully explained, where we decided to have platefuls of delicious savouries (Cucumber Sandwich is always a winner in my books!) before moving onto the sweets. The scones with sweet, caramelised onion chutney were a particular favourite and nothing is too much trouble for the staff (so naturally, we ordered a bit more 😉 ) It’s also worth noting the bathrooms are EXTREMELY instagrammable, I may or may not have spent 15 minutes just admiring them! I’m putting it on my bucket list to hit their spa and cinema up next!
THE MOST INVENTIVE, NOSTALGIC DESERTS ARE SURE TO BE A CONVERSATION STARTER AND PINTEREST WORTHY SNAP, ALL ROLLED INTO ONE
After a glass of cool champagne (what better way to spend midday!) we moved on to the tea, of which there is a HUGE variety (I’m normally a coffee gal, as you guys will know from my Vlogs, but with such an array I decided on a pot of chocolate tea! A platter of incredible, rich cakes were swiftly placed on our table, with more scones and a delicious selection of conserves, followed but the main attraction – the elaborate, towering deserts! All whilst being asked if there was anything else we needed!
As you can tell, I was most excited by the Candy floss, of which you must guess the flavour! (It took us forever and we had to cave in the end and ask!) There’s also a Panna Cotta, Cake pop, delicious pudding inside a chocolate egg and a chocolate shake – all heroing the Characters from Roald Dahls classic novel! I won’t spoilt it too much for you, as guessing the flavours was all part of the experience. It’s a tea like no other – a stunning, tranquil setting, friendly staff and an happy afternoon for your taste buds. Hen party, anniversary, birthday or just because you deserve it – I cannot recommend this place enough!
