“SET YOUR AMBIENCE. STOP PUTTING OFF USING YOUR ‘EXPENSIVE’ CANDLES AND YES, FLOWERS IN A BATH CAN BE A NECESSITY.”
Preparation is key for a relaxing pamper day or evening. Whether you’re having a group pamper session with your friends, or fancy an indulgent ‘at home’ spa experience for one – I’ve compiled my must haves and how to have the perfect spa and pamper evening at home. (I’ve also put a little graphic I made below that you can easily save or pin on Pinterest to remember your pamper checklist!) Firstly, get all of your products already prepared and in a little box or basket so it’s easily moveable and accessible. Light your favourite candles and place them around your bedroom, living room or bathroom (Where ever you’re having a pamper!) No saving your ‘expensive candles for another day’ – no time like the present to enjoy them! I also light my favourite incense sticks or pop some essential oilsinto a diffuser, which is another beautiful and safe way to infuse your house with scent (it also really gives it a spa-like atmosphere!)
Put on a relaxing spa playlist on Spotify or Youtube, or shuffle your favourites songs. Don’t forget the little things, like gemstones, blankets and smaller, more relaxing lights (nothing is more un-relaxing than a bright, blinding light!) Enjoy the ritual of setting up your ideal space! These all contribute to a relaxed and serene setting, just like in a spa! Grab a cold glass of water, little snacks like fruit, chocolate or whatever takes your fancy, and a glass of cold, fizzing, prosecco or a giant mug of tea (or all three!)
TO RELAX YOUR MIND AND SENSES
TRANSFORM YOUR BATHROOM
Whether you’re planning on having a deep soak in a bubble bath or have a shower, really taking a few minutes to transform your bathroom into a zen space makes ALL of the difference. Bright lights do nothing to get you relaxed, zoned out and ready for a good night’s sleep. Turn on smaller lights, or light enough candles and carefully place them around the room to create a lovely, ambient light. I’ve even got some bath lights that float and turn your bath into a colourful, light display and it’s so relaxing! I tend to fill a little wicker basket/box with my chosen products for the evening so I use everything I want to without forgetting about a luxury product I’ve been putting off using! This is a good way to neatly get everything ready so when it comes to your bubble bath, you can just R-E-L-A-X. Don’t underestimate the power of some good music and dimmed lights. Get your towel ready for after so you can slip nicely into your PJ’s or dressing gown after (My favourite thing to do is put the on a radiator nearby so they’re warm for after!)
FOR THE BATH TUB
MY CURRENT FAVOURITES FOR AN INDULGENT BATH-TIME:
- Some relaxing, scented, bath salts or a bath bomb; Lavender or these eucalyptus ones are my favourites.
- A bubble formula to create lovely, towering, bubbles to accompany the salts; The Sanctuary Spa Luxury Bath Float will forever be my favourite scent!
- A body oil or a rich moisturiser for after, whilst your pores are still open from the steam! Lavender is always my go-to for night-time, I love this Dr Teals lavender one I picked up from TK Maxx!
- Something indulgent to remove your makeup and dirt. For evenings, I always use a balm or oil to melt away the day. They’re packed with natural scents and are such a treat to massage into the skin! I’ve got a Darphin Aromatic Cleansing Balm here, True skincare cleansing oil and my absolute FAVOURITE Frank Bod creamy face scrub to exfoliate after (I swear by this stuff, it makes your skin so soft and fresh!) I also popped a new favourite in my basket to this this evening – The Erborian BB Sleep mask; I woke up with really smoothed and baby soft skin in the morning!
- For a spa evening, I’ll crack out my favourite hair combo’s and leave a mask to steam infuse into my hair whilst I soak for 10 minutes. I’m loving the Kérastase Blond Absolu at the moment to give it a refresh!
- Sometime’s I’ll wax (but I normally do this the following day as you’re not supposed to have hot baths or showers before or after waxing. I love the Nair wax strips, as I must admit I find the melting waxes a bit fiddly for my liking! These are straight forward, no mess and do the job!
INDULGE YOUR SKIN
After your bath, whilst your pores are open, it’s time to really indulge your skin! I tend to do a similar routine to before my bath and already have my chosen products out, ready and waiting so you know what’s on the skincare menu and can choose accordingly! I’ll normally press some toner or rose water into my skin, followed by a face or eye mask. (I’m loving the Sanctuary Hydrating rose sheet mask for a delicious scent of luxury, and Erborian Ginseng patches to rejuvenate the eyes – pop them in the fridge prior so they’re cold!) I also LOVE a Bioré Nose strip for a detox! After I’ve masked, I will tap some eye cream gently around the area. For serious luxury I’m using the Antipodes Kiwi Seed gold luminous eye cream with real 24k gold flakes, it comes in such a generous pot too! My other firm fave is the Kiehl’s Midnight recovery eye cream (Swear by it)
For your skin, smudge on some balm to hydrate your lips (I sometimes mix it with sugar beforehand and do a scrub!) and the massage in some moisturiser or facial oil, like the Sanctuary Spa 10 in 1 oil I have here. Research facial massage tutorials you can do on yourself to really benefit from the relaxing and sculpting movements. Really take your time And enjoy it! I also, always, without fail use a facial or jade roller every evening to de puff, boost circulation and just let it relax my facial muscles! (I even have my boyfriend borrowing it)
FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL SKIN
PRIMPING AND PREENING
I love to make a pamper day or evening a time to actually ENJOY the process of doing things. Sometimes we get caught up in thinking that body care is mundane. Change your mindset and begin to enjoy it – set aside dedicated time and you’ll likely find it a lot more relaxing! I recently started using Eylure Dybrow and the lash tint and it’s such a game changer! It gives me such a confidence boost with no makeup and it was such a quicker process than I had anticipated! I also love spending time giving myself a manicure and pedicure, as it always makes me feel extra put together. Choosing the colour is without a doubt my favourite part. If I want something quicker and beautiful; I’ll head for Elegant Touch false nails. (The french manicure ones are my favourite) But if I also decide to do my own, an ‘at home’ gel nail kit is revolutionary! As it takes time, it’s something I plan to sit down and do with a cup of tea and it becomes a really relaxing ritual. I also really enjoy buying a couple of new colours every so often! I rarely pluck my eyebrows these days, as an alternative I use brow shapers (that you can also safely use anywhere on your face!) They’re an absolute game changer and have been a saviour for years!
A PAMPER TREAT:
If you’re anything like me, you’ll likely have a drawer crammed with lovely pyjamas that are cute and lovely and beautiful but never get any wear! Use this as a once a week evening to pull out some silky PJ’s, pop them on the radiator and slip into the warm luxury of them! If it’s winter, I love using a hot water bottle or microwave wheat bag and put it under a blanket for after a bath, or you can use them on any aching muscles! Pop on your favourite slippers or soft socks, plait your hair so that it stays nice and manageable (plus you’ll have mermaid hair in the morning!) After my bath, skincare and nails, I’ll usually put my favourite, girly film on (huge cliché I know, but I’m partial to Clueless or Sex and the City for a pamper evening) and wind down with a herbal tea, reading and spritzing my bedding with lavender pillow spray to send you off for a beautiful slumber! Dim the lights, switch your mind off, breathe in the lovely scents of all the products you’ve used and allow yourself to relax ready for another day!
