“A METAL NECKLACE ADORNED WITH MY NAME AND HELD TOGETHER BY PLASTIC STARS, THAT MY GRANDAD GAVE ME, SPARKED MY LOVE AFFAIR FOR ALL THINGS PERSONALISED AND SENTIMENTAL”
From plastic mood rings won in Amusement Arcade machines, rope tied friendship bracelets and clip on, sparkly earrings. I’m sure we all have our own, unique, first memories of our encounters with jewellery. For me, it always made me feel special. A fond memory is the necklace my Grandad gave me – a leather rope with my name strung along in metal letters, with a glittering, plastic star on either side. This was a big deal for someone with a less than usual name and wearing it made me feel like a sassy, glamorous 10 year old proud to be called Primrose. This is what sparked my love affair with jewellery and the way it makes me feel.
Fast forward 10 and a pinch years later and my love for a bit of wrist, ear and neck candy is still going strong, though a little more refined nowadays. I like simple, delicate, layered jewellery (although I’m totally partial to a chunky watch!) I like mixing my metals, or just golding it up for warm, summer days. I like anything and everything I can personalise, adorn and engrave but when you have a pretty simple, low key, style – it can be difficult to get the balance right. I am beyond proud to share with you guys how I’m styling and wearing my jewellery (being the minimalist gal I am) with the incredible people at Thomas Sabo – a brand I have adored for years for their attention to detail, well priced, special pieces that I’m confident a lot of us will treasure for a lifetime.
YOU’RE NEVER FULLY DRESSED, WITHOUT YOUR SIGNATURE JEWELLERY
I truly, never feel totally complete until I’ve popped on my favourite rings, a pair of staple earrings ( These gold ones here are THE ONLY ones I’ve found that actually stay in my ear as they have a clasp!) and a little something draped around my neck (I also find great comfort in fiddling with necklaces – not just me, surely!?) My jewellery all tells a story and is very meaningful to me, I love how it enables you to connect with past memories and people – I can’t wait for the day I can pass my collection down to someone! (My grandmas jewellery box is like a treasure trove to me!) Whether you’re a maximalist and love to pile on colourful, sparkling layers of necklaces or prefer a more understated jewellery style – the ritual of putting it on every morning is like getting dressed for me and genuinely brings me joy! I have my go-to pieces I wear almost daily, and then depending on the event, layer up accordingly with more necklaces or some statement earrings!
“I BELIEVE JEWELLERY HAS THE POWER TO SPEAK VOLUMES OF WHO YOU ARE AND IT’S A HUGE PART OF MY IDENTITY”
ADD A TOUCH OF PERSONALISATION
For me, my jewellery acts as little reminders – whether that’s thinking of the person who gave it to me, a time or a reason behind purchasing it (I celebrated becoming a full time blogger with jewellery!) or as a little motivation. I particularly loved the engravable jewellery, which Thomas Sabo actually offer for free and can be done both online or in store! There’s also over 13,000 engraving combinations, you it’s easy to find something personal to you! On my yellow gold necklace, I decided what I wanted online, you can go for dates, initials or symbols! I chose my Star Sign, Capricorn, a Star (These are very symbolic to me and I associate them with ambition) as well as the Hand of Fatima, for happiness, health and luck. It serves as a little prompt for me, when I’m feeling down to look up, or remind me to keep inspired and looking forward! I’d love to know if you do this!
I’m also a sucker for anything personalised – hence this amazing, sparkling ‘P’ initial yellow gold charm for my charm bracelet! (Having a strange name, I never managed to get anything personalised when I was younger!) There is THE BIGGEST selection of charms on Thomas Sabo, one for every meaning which is what I love about them – there’s something for everyone and for every moment in your life; something to suit any age or style. They’re completely revolutionising the design and look of the Generation Charm Club Collection, and setting the trends for Spring and Summer 2018, just in time to style up your hols, festivals and lazy, days with a touch of something personal. Whether you opt for a charm bracelet or an elegant necklace – the charms can be worn across them all for total, personalisation.
ATTACH MEANINGS TO YOUR JEWELLERY – MESSAGES, MANTRAS AND INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES TO REMIND YOU EVERY TIME YOU GLANCE AT THEM
I think for me – my rings, necklaces and bracelets are like little, removable tattoos (total commitment-phobe over here 😉 ) Each serve a purpose, make me smile, make me remember my worth, my dreams and cherish memories. This is why I fell for the Love Coin collection, my necklace is engravable on both sides (but it did take me half an hour to decide if I wanted yellow gold, Rose Gold or Sterling Silver haha! I fell hard for the gold, I think the summer sunshine captures it beautifully! I love a bit of costume jewellery for an evening but primarily, Jewellery is an everyday ritual for me. Layered necklaces, a duo of my fave bracelets – I adore the simpler pieces, which for me completely brings an outfit together.
I love the contrast of the rich, gold tones against the denim and white tee – the jewellery is the subtle statement maker of the outfit. But they would equally look incredible chic against a daring, bright printed dress for a summer wedding – the best part about jewellery? There’s no wrongs and it’s totally unique and personal to you! Enjoy collecting, receiving and treating yourself over the years and seeing your treasure chest flourish and fill with memories. I’d love to know if any of you guys have certain rituals or ways of wearing your jewellery!
