Since clearing my skin up on roaccutane (not a decision to be taken lightly! Read my experience here) I’ve been obsessed with all things glowy, dewy and fresh. It was something I could never really achieve before, so it’s now something I’m really enjoying  every time I do my makeup. I’ve always naturally been drawn to paired back, makeup looks and love the French approach to cosmetics. For an evening out, I love to have a bold lip the focus, and this whole look was inspired when I received the Rodin lip and cheek oils and their luxury lipsticks.

I think this quote, by Vanessa Traina, who collaborated into the beauty world to create the lust-worthy products, explains what I wanted to achieve pretty, damn, well. “Think of how a woman looks after a brisk walk on a cool day – windblown hair, flushed cheeks, stained lips… My collections was created to inspire women to embrace their natural beauty.” – So if you want to try a more understated look this Valentines or for a special evening, here’s how I created this look.

Firstly, start with good, hydrating skincare! A serum, light eye cream and some SPF is normally my morning go-to. Primer optional, I usually go for a smidge of Benefit’s Porefessional, but here I went straight into my base, as I wanted to use as minimal products as possible. The Clarins cushion foundation is literally healthy skin dabbed on – it gives you a natural, dewy finish that is also buildable for any troublesome areas! It covers imperfections without looking like you have anything on at all and does everything I want it to and more, all within a compact (bonus points for being handbag friendly!) To set it in place, without totally mattifying, I pop on the Paul & Joe illuminating powder, which also adds to the healthy finish, plus how beautiful is the packaging? (I’m a sucker for anything that looks decorative in your makeup bag!) To add some warmth, I sweep some of the Sleek Face form bronzer under my cheekbones, across the nose and fore head (This is a fab, all in one palette!) For a pop of colour in the cheeks, I pat on the Rodin luxury lip and cheek oil in red and finish with a dash of Sleek’s Solstice Highlight palette over my cupids bow, lids, cheeks and brow bone (The colours are very ethereal but also quite natural at the same time – a winning combo in my books!)

Similarly with the cheeks, I dab the Rodin Luxury lip and cheek oil onto my lips. It has the natural colour of a stain, the staying power of a lipstick, yet the moisture and comfortable feeling on the lips, just like a balm. (Who says you can’t have it all!) For my lashes, I brush through my trusty, Benefit They’re Real, as nothing works better to ensure curly, fluttery eyelashes, all evening long. Last but not least; my favourite part of makeup; the brows. For a naturally, full brow, I stroke on hair like brushes of Eylure’s Fleur De Force Eyebrow pencil (Love the shade range of these, always so natural!) I also use the pencil to add too/enhance my freckles, as they sometime disappear in the winter months, and I like to embrace them with some makeup looks. Lastly, to set them in place and add texture, I sweep through some Benefit gimme brow – et voila.  I also tend to use a setting spray after to set your makeup but also add to the dewy, skin, finish.
